Kirsty Porter, the founder of K.P. Data Protection Consultancy began her legal career in 1996 in criminal defence overseeing all aspects of police station representation, advising clients and taking witness statements and managing high-cost, complex cases in the Crown Court with legal Counsel.

She later moved into legal services within the public sector, taking on the role of Information Governance Officer and Data Protection Officer (DPO) overseeing compliance and regulatory matters. Managing Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests within Local Government involved processing large volumes of sensitive data, including residents' personal details and staff records, while ensuring strict adherence to regulations. She also managed responsibility for overseeing data protection, providing training, and advising on compliance.

Having returned to work in the private sector as a Chartered Legal Executive, and Associate at Birketts LLP, Solicitors in Cambridge and Norwich, she provided specialist data protection legal support to clients across a wide range of sectors and sizes, from start-ups to international organisations.

In 2025 Kirsty established Kirsty Porter Data Protection Consultancy (KPDP Consultancy) to provide data protection services to individuals and organisations in the UK, as well as to those companies outside of the UK who process UK personal data. All legal work is provided through Nexa Law.

Having embraced the independence of a consultancy firm and joining Nexa Law as a specialist Data Protection Consultant Lawyer, her team have access to Nexa’s offices in London and Owestry, Shropshire (with an office in Birmingham opening in the summer of 2025).

If you're considering the move to consultancy, feel free to reach out to discuss how you can make it happen by emailing: info@kpdpconsultancy.co.uk. Our lawyers will be happy to share insights of the benefits and opportunities this way of working provides.
